In the past month, both Singapore Airlines as well as Emirates' have announced a refresh to their First Class offerings with a redesigned PRIVATE SUITE in the sky.
If you want to travel in style and comfort these airlines had long been the granddaddy-o's of premium cabin travel, and it looks like they just took their game up a notch yet again.
Now just thinking back even as few as 10 years ago, having a lie-flat seat on a transocean flight would have been pretty amazing. Looking at the products that are being offered it is simply stunning that many airlines, especially the Middle Eastern and Asian carriers have really upped the ante on the luxury travel game by offering quality service along side very solid hardware on their premium cabins. We are still seeing improvements (and gimmicks) released almost every single year.
And looking at some of the pictures that's being slowly released into the public from Singapore and Emirates.... man oh man. That is one amazing hard product that may be worth going out of your way to experience.
Many of these Tier 1 airlines have fantastic lounges and facilities at their hubs. Personally I am a leisure traveler rather than a sightseer, so the idea of spending a couple hours at one of these lounges enjoying some downtime and high quality dining options doesn't seem like a bad idea. However, I am also one who can generate a steady amount of credit card points and a truly budget traveler may be fully content with a business class seat and take the leftover points to drop the hotel costs. I can see both having its benefit, and personally being both equally frugal and spoiled, neither option exactly lap the other in its appeal...
Personally, I had always dreaded the actual flying part of traveling for as long as I can remember. Maybe it is the fear of heights, or being too imaginative thinking about what could go wrong with a couple hundred tons of metal flying in the air at a couple hundred MPH....
But looking at some of these pictures, I am more than happy to spend 15 hours in one of these in the coming year or two to spend down some of my credit card points!
Travel with your better half on a joined Singapore First Suite? Yes please!
Looks like Singapore will be releasing some of the first refreshed First Class product into the Singapore - Australia routes in the coming few months. Personally, Australia hasn't exactly been one of the top travel destinations for me, but I do want to visit... eventually. With a flight "experience" however, it may indeed shift my plans that it certainly seem a lot more attractive a destination than a few weeks ago even.
While Australia may be a bit on the expensive side on actual spending food and on-location spot to spot travel, there are some great values to be had with using points to fly Singapore and then stay at the Park Hyatt or the Marriotts around Sydney Harbour (Not bad a cash cost at 170 a night on the days I wanted, though it may very well be even cheaper with programs like Marriott's Flight and Hotel packages, I will most likely write about these options in the near future as I start formulating solid travel plans.)
Would a First Class travel experience be enough for you to go out of your way to plan travel specifically on these routes? Let me know in the comments below, as well as some of your experiences with some of your favorite routes, or maybe you have an under-rated city I should look into!
