DEALS: Cathay Pacific 50-60% Off Premium Econ and Business Class

November 28, 2017

Looks like there are still some quite attractive Black Friday deals ongoing!

Cathay Pacific is currently offering 50% off Premium Economy starting at $1,185 round trip to Asia, and 60% off Business Class to Asia starting at $3,187. The sale ends November 29th, and the departure period begins January 1, 2018 until May 23, 2018 with upwards of 6 months stay duration.

I flew Cathay Pacific Premium Economy from Hong Kong to Chicago earlier this year and it was the first time in a years I was able to sleep 7 hours on an economy seat. I struggle with Basic Economy seats on long haul flights due to my gout that the extra legroom, as well as the improved seats was quite the welcome feature for such a long-haul transpacific flight.

The business class sale is average in my opinion on the other hand is a bit average. Since I am a business owner, I can generate more points than what I can realistically use per year. Thus, I would always spend points to redeem for a Cathay Business Class flight on Alaska for 100k miles, or 145k miles if I was to use Asia Miles directly from Cathay itself. However, for those who do not generate this amount of miles and points I can see it may be an interesting splurge for a comfortable trip to Asia, and compared to the $6-7,000 cash cost I often see for Cathay, it seems like as good a time for the cash rate as any.

You may also want to stack this deal with your credit card travel portals, as I was able to find these fares on every issuer's portals. Flights ordered through these portals often appears as cash rates even if it was paid for in points, so you may earn anywhere from around 15-20k miles that could be credited to Cathay's Asia Miles or pool it with a partner airline you frequent with. However your mileage may vary depending on the route you are flying, so it may be worth doing some homework on whether this makes sense for you for the trip you are planning.

I quite enjoy Cathay's US routes, as there are many hubs (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Vancouver) that it is very easy to build an itinerary around Cathay's schedule. If you were looking for a visit to Hong Kong in the coming months, this is a deal to consider.
